Stem Cell Treatment
Hi! I’m Carl and I’m 33 years old. I was diagnosed with Relapsing and Remitting Multiple Sclerosis (RRMS). I was diagnosed when I was 26 after many many misdiagnoses. After a short stint of using a first line drug (Avonex), my health and mobility decreased significantly. I was then started on a second line drug (Tysabri) after many MRI scans and I gradually got some of my capabilities back.
I have been told that I have highly active RRMS despite being on a beta-interferon drug. I am trying to raise money so I can go for a treatment called Stem Cell Therapy. This is where I would have my stem cells harvested, I would receive aggressive chemotherapy to wipe out my immune system and have the newly wiped stem cells returned to my body.
Due to my diagnosis, I was unable to work and this was heartbreaking for me. My wife (who i’d met at Uni when studying nursing back in 2009), who is my rock, works full time and supports me. I really want to be able to go back to work so that I can give back to the NHS what they have given me. Due to me being too unwell to work with mentally unwell patients, I started studying at Leicester University in 2015 in Integrative Psychotherapy, where I have just finished my degree. I currently volunteer at a charity that helps male abuse victims.
I’m a massive football fan, and support the mighty foxes (season ticket holder for several years). As well as being a huge Premier league fan, I used to love playing Sunday league football. This was another thing that had a negative impact on my life
In all honesty it has stopped me living a normal life,,I miss out on going out with friends/family.
My wife and I would love to start a family, however are unable to until my MS is stable (or hopefully gone). So I am asking from the bottom of my heart if you, the kind and generous people of this world, could help me afford a life changing treatment. I am the last person in the world that would ask people for money, but I am appealing for help.
