Bryanna's Bicycle

My name is Chris Hodges. I have always believed that every child deserves the experience of a new bicycle.
I am sure everyone remembers the thrill of the independence and freedom we experienced the first time we had control of our own wheels.
Please meet Bryanna; she will be 12 years old this year. Though I have never met her face to face, I know without a doubt that her disabilities have never slowed her down.
Bryanna has a form of cerebral palsy that restricts the use of her legs, to the point of needing crutches for mobility. I don’t believe anyone notices her pink crutches.
She is a cheerleader on the Prime Time Superstars, a special needs cheerleading squad, which is remarkable in every way, but even more remarkable is her character and her caring heart.
You see, when Bry was 10 years old, she witnessed the horror of the Boston Marathon bombings in the news. She apparently felt compelled to do something for the victims of the attack, many of them ending up like her, relying on crutches for mobility. Bryanna took action!
She presented the idea of a walkathon, to raise money for The One Fund, to her teacher. Her teacher led her through the channels to make this happen. After a presentation to the administration, Bryanna got the green light for her project. On the day of the walkathon, the entire school participated by walking laps around her school. Over $3000 was raised. Pledge sheets went home to families and in the day of the walkathon the entire school walked laps around the school. Over $3,000.00 was raised and Bryanna hand delivered the money to Mayor Menino in his Boston office.
Bryanna has never had a new bike of her own. Due to her disability, the cost of an adaptive bicycle is cost prohibitive for her family.
