Peter's Legacy Bench at the Bronx Zoo

Peter Schmidt, 36 years old of NJ/NY, passed away earlier this year. Peter was an adventurer at heart, and he sought to see every corner of the world. He frequently traveled to beautiful places with his friend Matthew Dank. Peter even got Megan, his future wife, to enjoy the wonders of traveling too. Peter slept under the stars in the Sahara desert, saw spotted octopus while scuba diving at dusk in Thailand, meandered through Joshua trees on trails near Palm Springs, explored the fish markets of Tokyo, and watched in awe as wildebeest crossed the Mara River in the Serengeti.

 

Peter loved to see animals in their native habitats during his travels. It was his ultimate goal to see the mountain gorillas in the Congo. Peter's family and friends would like to honor him with a Legacy Bench at the Bronx Zoo. The bench will be along the Gorilla Walk, at the entrance of the Congo exhibit. All donations that exceed the cost of the bench ($5,000) will be donated directly to the Wildlife Conservation Society  (WCS).
