On the morning of May 13th, 2018, I got a text from my mother. It said the following:
“I think I’m having a stroke. No joke.”
It was 7:02 Mother’s Day morning. The stroke occurred in the left side of her brain, in the general area of the brain responsible for speech and cognitive abilities. Because of quick action by both my mother and the doctors at Mercy hospital, my mother has not suffered any speech or cognitive damage. Since her stroke, my mother’s progress has been amazing, especially now that she has started physical therapy to tend and strengthen her right arm and leg that was affected by the stroke.
With one journey coming to a successful end, another one is about to begin. A few days following her stroke, my mother had a CT scan on her abdomen and they found a mass measuring about the size of a cantaloupe. We’re still waiting for biopsy results, but we know for sure that Mom will need chemotherapy before she’s ready for surgery. My mother does not have any insurance
Any contribution to this GoFundMe will go to getting my mother back on her feet. Groceries, rides, clothes, anything she needs to make her transition from the hospital back to her independent ways. She’s got a long road to being 100% again, so all help will be appreciated.
