Nuts and bolts for Mike

Spende geschützt
I'd like to introduce you to Mike Carrington.

Throughout his life, Mike has devoted himself to helping others. He works as an EMT when he's not in class, he's a dedicated father, and he's currently applying to fulfill his dream to become a Colorado firefighter. And when he's not doing all of those things, Mike is a climber.

Not just any climber. Mike is one of the rare breed of climbers who is building the future of the sport--someone who looks for new lines and new crags, who is out there hiking for hours, cleaning up belay stations and routes and building trails just so we can have new areas to climb. Every year, he puts up new sport and trad lines throughout the front range--in clear creek, Shelf and in  South Platte (Devil's Head).  And he does this all in his free time and out of his own pocket. These routes go into guidebooks (written by others) and magazines (Rock and Ice), but Mike doesn't make a cent and rarely any glory. He donates his time to do this because he loves the sport.

Every year, Mike spends over $2000-$3000 on bolts, hangers, quick-links, chains for anchors, drill bits (each only good for 10-20 holes), spray paint for hangers, brushes, gloves and other equipment. This is money he generally can't fully afford as a single dad, so he asks (begs) friends to help out.  To those who can offer the time to go out in the wilderness and find those routes, Mike is happy to give them a first ascent, or show them the basics of building a new route.

With our climbing community growing exponentially each year, we need new safe places to climb. I'm building this GoFundMe page because I've been one of the volunteers who have helped Mike build and clean routes, and I'm inspired by his energy and his devotion to this sport. I hope that you'll join me in helping Mike get the equipment he needs so that we can build the crags of the future.
