Nathan Garner's Cancer Fund

On Sept. 19, 2014, my brother, Nathan was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.  What first appeared as a harmless small bump on his neck was quickly diagnosed as an aggressive, fast-moving cancer of the blood. Without treatment, life-expectancy is roughly one month. 

Doctors immediately put Nathan in the hospital and the next six months were filled with tests, chemotherapy, more medicine, more tests and then a success - remission within two months of treatment. Nathan and Kelley, their children, Josh and Maddie, and friends and family celebrated this success and were hopeful this remission would continue. 

Unfortunately, about three months later, March 20, 2015, the exact same day Nathan was in the process of being tranferred from the hospital setting to the longer-term out patient maintenance treatment,  the doctors got that day's lab reports back. The white cell count had shot up exponentially above the last report. It was back.

Now it is back in the hospital, more tests, more chemo, and more ups and downs both medically and emotionally.  The doctors and nurses are doing all they can to get the cancer back into remission. We do not know what the future holds, but of course there are expenses involved with family flying in to help, transportation, going from full salary to disability pay and medical expenses. Friends and family have been just amazing - providing gift cards, meals, and assistance with the kids, and those gifts have been so appreciated, but many long-distance people are asking how they can help so we are setting up this fund to help with these additional needs.
