Wheelchair accessible van for freedom

Donation protected
Hi my name is Tyson Martin I’m turning 21 in November. I have quadriplegic cerebral palsy (I’m NOT mentally disabled at all) This means that I am wheelchair bound. The national disability insurance scheme (NDIS) doesn’t fund wheelchair accessible vans, only will pay for a van to be fitted out if it is less than 2 years old (from the current year). My family are not in a financial position to afford this initial up front cost upwards of $40,000. In order for me to move in and out of this chair my carers use an electric hoist. Currently I am studying TAFE Digital, Certificate 3 in Community Services with intention of getting future employment in this field. My regular hobbies at the moment is expanding my knowledge of information technology, such as Web design and Blogging. I have lived for the last 18 years in Batemans Bay area. I live with my dad who is my primary carer. I also have paid carers who come in daily to help with my personal care (this is funded by my NDIS plan). I have regular medical appointments out of this area, to Sydney and Canberra. Also future hospital visits for surgery planned within a year. The only method for me to be transported to these appointments is by my dad who lifts me manually into his sedan and then out again (a hoist cannot do this). My wheelchair has to be taken by a trailer attached to the car. At present this system is very difficult due to my dad’s current medical condition (rapid arterial fibrillation). When he is effected by this his breathing is very limited and any physical exertion has a big impact on his energy level for the next 24 hours or longer. I have informal support from my Nan and Pop who live locally, but they are aging and my Pop has declining health conditions (in and out of hospital regularly) and is on oxygen. The only transport available to me locally is a wheel chair taxi service. l drive my chair into and out of these independently. These taxis come at a cost and are limited to only the local area. I desperately need a vehicle like this to allow me to be able to access my regular medical and hospital/surgery commitments with dignity. It would provide freedom for me to be flexible and independent on a daily basis to travel into the community with my carers driving me.
