Last Tuesday, August 27, 2019, Matt Clark, a firefighter for 18 years with Forsyth County Fire department, had his truck stolen while they were at the Cancer Treatment Center in Newnan, GA. They were there for his wife, Kari’s, visit with her new oncologist and for her weekly infusion.

As difficult as it is to imagine someone stealing a vehicle from a cancer patient, the items inside the truck were even more valuable. Kari had medical supplies and medicines, her comfy blanket and a few things, while Matt had some precious items, as well. Due to just coming off of a 24-hr shift, Matt had more personal items than usual- his guitar Kari gave him and some items from his dad, who passed from cancer three years ago. His dad was also a firefighter and former Fire Chief.  Matt's laptop with irreplaceable fire training videos, a rescue knife and a few other sentimental items were also in the stolen truck.

In 2013, just after her third baby was born, Kari was diagnosed with an aggressive triple negative breast cancer. Since then, she has tried numerous treatments. When he is not on shift, Matt is the caretaker for their three precious girls. On Tuesday when their truck was stolen, Kari was meeting with a new oncologist who is trying a more experimental medicine and to discuss a plan for some non-traditional other types of treatment. Treatments make her very sick and daily she battles fevers, nausea, numbness and more.

This could not have happened to a sweeter couple. They have had a rough few years. In fact, Matt’s truck that was stolen was a replacement when his first truck burned up due to an unknown-to-them recall. It was sitting in their driveway and spontaneously erupted into flames at midnight burning the entire side of their house. Additionally, Matt had JUST put an entire new engine in his truck this summer and now Kari’s vehicle needs work, as well.

As you can imagine, years of fighting for health and for their family has caused great emotional, physical and financial strain. The love of their community at this time is an overwhelming blessing. Even if you cannot give, please continue to pray for Kari’s health, Matt’s strength and for their three, young girls to have peace.
