IVF Fund for Baby Mason

Donation protected
Dear Family, Friends, and Community,

Thank you for visiting our page. We have created this account to help fund our dream of having a family. We were diagnosed with infertility last year and have been working closely with specialists in the field.

As a labor and delivery nurse, Elysia sees patients who have been through fertility treatment and is a witness to the miracle of life as a result. We never thought we would be in this situation; we have learned and grown so much from our struggle. We are so ready to be parents!

Our health insurance does not cover any portion of treatment with a diagnosis of infertility and we are paying for our treatment completely out-of-pocket. Up to this point we have paid nearly $5,000 in out-of-pocket expenes.  The estimated cost of a single IVF cycle is $17,500. We are participating in a two-cycle program that costs ~$25,000.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We have been dreaming of our family together for many years. Two years ago, we made the decision to have a baby. After nearly a year of trying, wishing, and hoping, we realized we might need help. Many waiting rooms, blood tests, ultrasounds and a HSG (a radiology procedure) later, we discovered that Elysia was not ovulating (releasing an egg). It seemed like such a simple and easy fix at the time:  take a medication, time everything, you will ovulate, you will get pregnant and have a baby.  A + B = C. Unfortunately, that was not the case for us. After four months of unsuccessful medicated cycles and dealing with the negative side effects of the medication, our OBGYN recommended we see a fertility specialist.
Our fertility doctor carefully reviewed our history and lab-work, and presented our options for conception. First, we would try IUI (intrauterine insemination), which included a highly monitored cycle, oral medication, injections, lab-work, and multiple ultrasounds. We would be given three chances with IUI before moving on to the big guns, IVF (in-vitro fertilization).
Our first round of IUI went almost perfectly. Elysia responded to a small dose of medication, but required an additional procedure to reduce the number of follicles (structure which holds an egg) as it put us at risk for higher order multiples (triplets, quadruplets etc.). Our team felt very confident in our chance for pregnancy. We waited 2 weeks, and tested; our result was negative and we were completely devastated. Our team of fertility specialists were disappointed as well, but were encouraged by our odds, and we decided to try again. Midway through our second round of IUI, we hit a roadblock. Elysia's ovaries, again, responded too well to the smallest dose of medication, resulting this time in a dangerous number of follicles. Our doctor decided the safest way to proceed was to cancel the second cycle and not attempt a third cycle. She recommended IVF as our remaining option to start a family, as it is much more controlled and has higher rates of success (60%).
We have decided to move forward with the IVF process, which involves blood-work, medication, injections up to four times a day, ultrasounds every 1-3 days until retrieval of eggs, anesthesia, retrieval of eggs, creation of embryos, cryopreservation (freezing) of embryos, and implantation (transfer) of embryos.  We are nervous about the IVF procedures but very excited about the prospect of having a baby.
This is a very overwhelming process that we would not be able to manage without the love and support of our family, friends, and community. We thank you for reading and contributing in any way you can, whether donation, prayer, a call or a visit. If you feel moved to forward our story to others, please feel free to do so. Again, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
