Being on strike is really hard. It's emotionally and financially hard. Knowing that other people have your back can help a lot.
We want to show our solidarity with 3 different groups that are on strike at Canadian universities.
CUPE 3902 represents contract academic staff at the University of Toronto. They have been on strike since the beginning of March. On March 26 they voted to accept binding arbitration .
CUPE 3903 represents contract academic staff, teaching assistants, graduate assistants and research assistants at York University. They have also been on strike since the beginning of March. On March 29th they voted yes on a tentative settlement and went back to work on March 30th.
The University of Northern British Columbia Faculty Assocication represent faculty, senior laboratory assistants, contract academic staff and librarians. They were on strike and were ordered back to work and forced into mediation. Currently they are awaiting the mediator's report.
On April 1st, I'll divide the money that's been raised and send 1/3 to each of these groups.
Our colleagues are fighting against austerity, managerialism and cuts to the public sector. These things have an impact on librarians, library workers and libraries too. Let's support them.
