The O'Neill Family

We've created this GoFundMe to financially assist Cody O'Neill, his wife, Kelsey Harding O’Neill and their daughter Emersyn (2). Cody's medical expenses have continued to increase and we want to help ease  their burden. 

Cody was a happy, healthy husband and father working as an Offensive Line Coach at South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. In March of 2020, he went to the doctor with what he thought was a bad cold that would not go away. He found out that a virus had attacked his heart and it was only functioning at 25 percent. He was sent home with medication with the hope that his heart would respond. Unfortunately, his heart function did not improve and in July, he underwent surgery to place a defibrillator and pacemaker. 

Though he was feeling better after his surgery, it didn't last long. Cody had emergency surgery at the end of August to remove 4 liters of fluid from around his heart. Then, last weekend, Cody's symptoms returned and he was admitted to Sioux Falls Sanford Medical Center. Doctors then told him that his heart was now only functioning at 15 percent. Sanford was not able to offer the advanced treatment Cody needed, so he was airlifted to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago where he remains. After extensive testing and evaluation, it has been determined that he will need a heart transplant. 

Cody will be out of work for an extended period of time while he waits for and recovers from the heart transplant. Cody’s medical bills continue to grow from the previous hospitalizations and surgeries in addition to the current hospitalization, future transplant surgery and recovery. Cody and Kelsey are anxiously awaiting the arrival of their second child in January which adds to the financial stress during this time. Cody and his family would greatly appreciate any and all support. All funds raised will go directly towards expenses accrued during this time.
