Burnie West Rotary Club Fund Raising Project.

Local Woman Maree Smith has had kidney failure for twenty years. During these twenty years, she gave birth to a son Jarrick.

She had to have kidney treatment every day for nine months during her pregnancy. Maree was battling along in life until seven years ago when she fell and broke her leg and elbow.

Maree has never recovered from this injury and has spent seven months in Launceston Hospital after re-breaking her leg.

Maree also has Osteoporosis a disease that weakens bone strength and causes an enormous amount of pain. Therefore any type of pressure to her legs and bones will cause further breaks and fractures.

This is now led to fulltime wheel chair use for the rest of her life. Maree is now back in our community where she is undergoing further treatment at Burnie Hospital.

Maree has other under lying health issues including a low blood count & Lymphedema which makes body parts swell up.

Maree also needed a new Kidney but because of her health condition has put this operation won’t be possible for the rest of her life.

Maree is close with her family and her husband who spends all of his time looking after Maree, this is obviously a very difficult task at the best of times.

Like many families Maree & Graeme can’t afford the necessary items required to help with her everyday life. This includes everyday management of her disability and other health issues. Financially this is very testing on Maree’s family and they need all the help we can source them.

The main issue for the family is to give Maree some type of pleasure in life and for her to be able to go to Hospital in a suitable vehicle that can transport her safely in her condition.

We at Burnie West Rotary have therefore decided to raise enough money where we can purchase her a suitable vehicle for travel that has all the NDIS requirements for safe travel.

We have been able to find a suitable vehicle and we are now raising the money that is required for purchase of this special vehicle.
We are hoping that generous Australians help us to raise the funds on our go fund me page to purchase a wheel chair friendly vehicle. vehicle to transport Maree.

God Bless All
