On August 29th 2015 I will be joining team of people who will gather in Italy for the “Because You Can” cycle ride through the dolomites. This five day, 73 mile ride will challenge riders both physically and mentally.
I'll be raising money for MS but I'll be riding for RUTH ANN MELSER, my mother who is no longer with us. She passed away from Ovarian Cancer 4 years ago. I want to ride in honor of her while help raise money for MS.
The goal of this particular challenge is to raise awareness for debilitating and paralyzing diseases such as MS.
There are so many diseases that prevent its victims from doing the physical things we take for granted everyday. Imagine never being able to ride a bicycle, go for a swim, hike a mountain or dance to your favorite song. Because You Can raises money and awareness to fund programs for those suffering from such diseases.
Additionally, we hope to bring worldwide awareness by encouraging all who can, to utilize their healthy bodies to do what so many can only dream of.
I am responsible for raising $5000 to participate in the Italy bike ride challenge in which 100 percent of the net proceeds goes to fund BYC's four programs:
1. The Bucket List: This program provides those suffering from life altering, life threatening diseases to fulfill a bucket list wish.
2. Empower me: This program provides those with any disability with gear designed to challenge their physical ability. In addition we help with medical equipment and supplies from adult briefs to hospital beds.
3. Support me: This program helps support caregivers and their patients with support groups and ideas of what physical activities they can enjoy together regardless of physical limitation.
4. Challenge me: This program challenges any one to conquer something physical “Because You Can” and in honor/memory/support of a loved one. (Ruth Melser)
