It's All About the Light - Solar for Navajo Nation

"It's All About the Light" -  Lighting the Navajo Nation with Solar Power

"It's about the light," a common phrase often said and heard by many photographers (and maybe a few spiritual folks as well). But in this case, it's not about "the golden hour" or perfect Rembrandt Lighting.

It's about getting basic and essential lighting via solar energy into the homes of Navajo Nation families currently living without permanent power.

It's about illuminating and supplying power to students' desks and tablets, allowing them an opportunity to be successful with their, now distant, education.

In addition, it's also about helping the Navajo Nation reduce their need for fossil fuel-powered generators and deposable batteries.

With this fully funded campaign, we will be able to purchase and install ten (10) brand new Goal Zero Solar Kits as well as supplying one hundred (100) Goal Zero portable solar lights. For reference to see how donation funds will be used thanks to the humanitarian support from Goal Zero; $400- allows us to purchase an entire solar kit (Goal Zero Power Station/Battery, 50w solar panel, two Light-a-Life solar-powered lights, all cables and mounting brackets) for a home. Each additional $15- will allow us to purchase a portable solar-powered Goal Zero Crush Light/Lantern. As you can see, any donation amount that you can offer will be greatly appreciated.

With the wonderful humanitarian support of Goal Zero and working closely with Heart of America (HOA) and Mylo Fowler, I have organized this GoFundMe Campaign to help bring solar light and power to families on the Navajo Nation.

T Challenge: Personally, I have already purchased and donated two (2) Goal Zero Kits (solar panel, power station, lights, cords), so with this funded campaign we will have supplied solar power to one dozen Navajo families! So, the challenge is on! : )

A note regarding donations and the purchase of the Goal Zero solar equipment -  You will be able to receive a tax-deductible donation receipt directly from Heart of America once the funds are transferred (I will do this before year's end). This current GoFundMe Campaign is not setup to be connected directly to the GoFundMe Charity Campaigns or to the Heart of America Charity/Fundraising sites. But I have made arrangements with Heart of America (HOA) that any donors needing a tax-deductible receipt will receive one directly from HOA once the funds are transferred.

Once the campaign ends, or those working to deliver and install the equipment need the "kits," I will then transfer campaign funds to HOA to purchase the equipment and have them delivered/installed.

And to address one "What's in it for you, T?" question - Nothing. I will in no way "profit" from this campaign. Due to my privilege, and my connections to wonderful, compassionate and loving friends and family, creating and promoting such a campaign just feel like the right thing to do.
If you are in a position to assist, please consider a contribution to help bring solar power to the Navajo Nation.

A note from HOA:
For more than half of its 23-year history, national nonprofit Heart of America (HOA) has ensured students have access to modern resources as well as transformed educational and community spaces into modern learning environments. Leveraging corporate support and large-scale volunteer power, dark and dilapidated spaces quickly transform into vibrant, engaging places to learn. To date, HOA has launched more than 500 of these spaces such as school libraries, tech labs, gymnasiums, cafeterias, classrooms by initiating creative and unique public-private partnerships. As schools closed their doors indefinitely starting in March 2020 due to Covid-19, HOA needed to evaluate how this work continued and how best to keep kids learning. Since then, HOA has shifted to responding to students where they are, bringing resources from the classroom to the living room and making distance learning easier. The organization has distributed almost 17,000 learn-from-home Education Packs in communities across the United States filled with books, school supplies, art materials, STEM activities and challenges, and much more. Well over 40% of those Packs, or approximately 7,500, have been delivered to Navajo Nation and other Native American Communities. With your support, we can provide solar installation kits as part of the Distance Learning resources in the next phase of the project.

Peace and a heartfelt 'Thank You" for your consideration. T
