The poor are the mission
Donation protected
The Sisters living in the convent at the Blessed Sacrament church in Kansas City, KS need your help. They are a Franciscan order named the Fraternity of the Poor of Jesus Christ. Their mission at the convent is to house, feed, clothe and give spiritual guidance to homeless women. The convent, once the repairs are completed, will house 15 women.
The convent was build in the 1950s and has been vacant for years. The Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas is providing funds for the work on the exterior of the building. The funds the Sisters are seeking is for the interior of the building. The two primary items which need to be acquired; furnaces to heat all three floors of the building and a fire code compliant alarm system. Plus minor tasks, such as, painting, ceiling and wall repair, flooring, plumbing fix up, etc. The cost of replacing the heating and air conditioning systems will exceed $30,000.
Much of the labor the Sisters are receiving comes from the many volunteers in the community. However, the materials and labor costs, not performed by volunteers, must be paid for.
The Poor of Jesus Christ is a 501 (c)(3) charity thus any donations are tax deductable.
