Help cover Christina’s Costs due to injury

Hi, I am Christina 

I suffered an Incomplete Spinal Cord Injury from C4-T2 respectively at at the age of 45- from a rare spinal condition called Myelomalacia.

I am a mother of 4, a grandmother, a wife, and most recently I am employed as a Home Care Attendant with Prairie Mountain Health Region.

I walked into surgery on May 21, 2021 just 3 days after my 45 birthday.

I came out paralyzed on the left side of my body entirely and partially paralyzed on my right side.

I experienced a very rare Spinal Swelling and Spinal Cord Stroke during a Fusion and Disc Replacement.  My condition is called Myelomalacia.  It’s a very rare and progressively fatal attack on my spinal cord.

My injury has left me with paraplegia to all four limbs- all have varied degrees of strength and weakness.  I also have loss of function in my personal care, bathroom issues, and most importantly I am unable to be the mom I was prior to my surgery.

I have to take many medications to mitigate the spinal swelling, some are not covered by our insurance.

Due to the backlog in services I was sent home, and I am waiting to enter the Spinal Cord Injury Recovery Injury at Health Science Centre in Winnipeg. 

My first appointment is scheduled for October 21.  

I am being told to anticipate a stay in Winnipeg anywhere from 3-6 months for therapy- which will not be doable unless I can find the funding to accommodate the hotels, transportation, meals..exc.

There I hope to relearn and regain some function, adapt and receive pain management plans.

These circumstances have put a significant financial hardship on myself and my spouse, due to loss of wages, increased medication and health related costs, hotel rooms, meals, child care, fuel and other unexpected costs.

This crushed my dreams of re-entering my beloved nursing career.
