We learned that our brother, Jimmy, has leukemia and was transferred on June 4, 2019 to the University of Minnesota (UOM) Medical Center, East Bank, to begin treatment.  He has had two (2) blood transfusions so far and we hope to find out his treatment protocol by Friday, June 7th.

The main photo for this GoFundMe effort features the visit by Jimmy's children on Thursday, June 6th, with pictured from left to right Mikey, Megan, Jimmy and Mitch.

December 29th, Jimmy made it to his 100th day post transplant on December 26th. This was a big day due to the first 100 days after transplant are the risky for Graph vs Host disease. He will be going in tomorrow for his Survivorship consultation with his providers and another bone marrow biopsy. Then he will be meeting with his doctor this Friday, January 3rd to go over test results.

Also posted a flyer for Jimmy's benefit in St. Paul Park on Saturday, February 22nd.

After a long treatment process, Jim’s results are looking very good! He will have a finalized result in December 2019, after one last bone marrow biopsy.

Let’s all show Jim our support!

Today, September 11th, Jimmy check back into the UOM Medical Center to begin the bone marrow transplant process.  He will be in the hospital for a month and starts out with three (3) days of radiation treatment.  This coming Monday, will be the white blood cell donation transplant.  After that, he goes through another round of chemo.

Last week was busy for our brother Jimmy as he prepared for his discharge from the hospital scene that he spent just over 2 months battling leukemia.

Jimmy had his more recent bone marrow biopsy on day of his discharge from hospital, and got all packed up, discharged, departed, and arrived at our Mom's home where Jimmy will stay for the next couple week or so. Yes, on Thursday, August 8, 2019, Jimmy got out of the hospital.

Jimmy had his consultation for the bone marrow biopsy the next morning with our Mom present. He is matched with a donor and will start that process over next week or so.  More to be posted on this ...

***

It has been a busy week dealing with possible discharge from hospital and then getting set up to start the bone marrow transplant.  The plan is for a bone marrow draw tomorrow, Thursday, August 7th.  Jimmy has been in hospital since May 31st and he so ready to get out and go to the next treatment.

***

We did get good news, July 16th, that Dave and Larry Burdick, brothers, are matches for Jimmy for the next step in his treatment.  We hope the bone marrow transplant process will start in early August, if Jimmy is successfully in remission of the leukemia.

***

The doctors will be doing another bone marrow biopsy to test to see if the blast or below 5% and in remission.  If that goes well, the plan is to check out of the hospital towards the end of July.

Then will start the next phase of bone marrow transplant with re-admission to the hospital for those procedures.  The transplant doctor has stated that I have a 50-50 chance from the time of the transplant to 100  days after.  They have to monitor to make sure Jimmy doesn't reject the transplant.

So the nurses say they never see purple chemo bags. Maybe it’s a sign if you are a Vikings fan and/or a Prince fan?  Which  Jimmy is both!  So, purple me up!

Thank everyone again for your support it is giving Jimmy strength and hope that is beyond words!

If you are a Facebook friend of Jimmy, he is unable to read and respond to any Facebook responses.  His eye sight is still effect because of the chemo side effects.

***

Jimmy completed his 2nd round of chemo and now we wait a few days for them to do the next tests on bone marrow.  We hope it shows him in remission and the his bone marrow starts kicking in to produce its own blood white cells.

The chemo has affected Jimmy's eyesight and made it difficult for him to see.

If all the tests in a few days show that the luekemia is in remission, the next step is to proceed with bone marrow transplant once compatible donors have been identified.

***

Jimmy started his 2nd round of chemo last night, June 29, and we hope after this round the leukemia will be in remission.  If it is, then the next step will probably be the bone marrow transplant process.

It has been a month in hospitals now.

***

Jimmy's last bone marrow test shows him at 10% blast. He needs tobe at 5% or less to be considered for transplant. Anything above 5% would mean he would need another round of chemo.

Doctors will be doing another bone marrow biopsy planned for Thursday, June 27, to relook at the blast numbers.

His eyes continue to be an issue due to low platelets.  He has had platelet transfusions.

On Monday, June 24, the bone marrow transplant team came in and briefed Jimmy on what that process will be.  He has to be at 5% or less before they do the bone marrow transplant  It will be done on an outpatient status and involve both radiation and chemo treatments.

***

The third bone marrow biopsy was performed yesterday and it takes about 48 hours to get all the results.  We should know by Monday, June 24, what happens next.

the chemo is Jimmy affecting his eyesight and they are looking at that and giving him more platelets due to the numbers running low.  Hopefully, this will improve his eyesight.

Jimmy is doing fairly well considering and we are thankful he is otherwise in very good medical health coming into this leukemia fight.

***

Jimmy has been in a hospital since May 31st, and tomorrow, Thursday, June 20th, he will have another bone marrow biopsy.  They are waiting until then to do this next test to see the full effect of the first series of chemo treatment.

***

REVISED:  On Friday, June 14th, Jimmy started feeling more severely.  Fever, feeling cold and tired, and just wanting to sleep.  He has had an
infection in his lungs and it appears to be the cause.  He has been doing better over the last couple of days and is taking the chemo treatment very well.  Coming in healthy and hopefully catching this early has been a blessing.

Today, Monday the 17th, they came in to focus on his lungs and we hope they can figure that out quickly.  He did have another blood transfusion today.  Jimmy looking really good today!

****

We now wait a few days for the next bone marrow test to be done.  The first round of chemo was completed on Tuesday night, June 11th, and next week will be the bone marrow tests to see how the treatment went and what to do next.

***

Jimmy did receive a third blood transfusion which is probably going to reoccur due to low white blood cell counts that will be affected by the chemo treatment.  His 3rd chemo treatment is tonight, Tuesday, June 11.

***

On Sunday, June 9th, Jimmy had his second treatment of chemo.  So far, he has a few effects but nothing real severe.  His next treatment if on Tuesday, June 11th.

***

On Friday, June 8th, Jimmy started chemo of Vyxeos and his initial treatment will be three (3) separate doses every other day.  His next treatment will be Sunday, June 9.

The treatment may be changed depending on test results and Jimmy is looking at being in the hospital for about a month.

He is in fairly good health but was feeling tired and went in for a doctor's visit and found out that his white blood cell levels were low.  Prior to treatment he had went through two (2) blood transfusions.

It is so appreciated for your support especially prayer and we are hopeful that they caught this early and Jimmy is started this treatment at one of the best rated hospitals.

We also appreciate if you would share this GoFundMe effort on Facebook, Twitter and other message outlets.

Our experience with gofundme.com

We have some comments on GoFundMe charges and the tip at the end of the process.  If you want to review their policies and practices in greater detail, there are links to do so.  GoFundMe DOES NOT take a percentage of the donation!  Their only charge is about 3% to cover credit card processing fees which is consistent with the industry.

If you look at other charities, they often give very little of what you donate to the cause being promoted.

GoFundMe also sends the donated funds promptly to the recipient intended.  Within about 2 or 3 days, Jimmy received the first distribution of funds, and almost every day since new donations are sent to his bank account that is used for this effort.  THANK YOU, GoFundMe!

At the end of the checkout process, GoFundMe asks for a tip to pay their costs and future sustainability, including employee expenses, infrastructure costs, etc. and their default amount is 15% but if you click it you can change it to $0 or $5 or 5% or you choice of amount.  THANK YOU, GoFundMe for sending 97% of donations to Jimmy!

Mostly, THANK YOU, to the individuals who have made the contributions using GoFundMe.
