Support the family of Graeme Bousada

Donation protected
Graeme Bousada, loving father, husband, son, brother, friend and beloved community member died suddenly on June 27. He fell from a ladder while working on his home. We are heartbroken to lose him.

Many have expressed wanting a way to support Graeme’s family: his wife Rose, and their baby son Ira. We’re now accepting donations on behalf of Graeme’s family, which will be received directly by Rose and go toward the following causes:

- $15K for legal and medical fees related to Graeme's death

- $60k for an education fund for Ira

- Any additional funds will be put towards a number of community-based projects in Graeme’s memory in the realm of food security, climate justice, and art/music (causes Graeme was incredibly passionate about). We are still deciding on the specifics with the family and close friends, and it will be shared with everyone who has contributed. Potential project ideas: a community garden, a mural by a local artist, an audio storytelling project for his son to learn about his father, contributions to the Save the Walbran Valley initiative through the Wilderness Committee; please contact us if you have any other ideas to put forward.

A message from Rose:

"If you knew Graeme you knew that he had a lot of pride surrounding money. He was an amazing provider for our family and before his death he worked tirelessly to establish our home and work towards financial stability. I would never want to take his pride away from him. I never thought he would die because of his far reaching sight into the future and his carefulness in action. It's important to me to be transparent; this crowd funding is not for use for any of the funeral costs or for sustaining Ira and I. This crowd funding is to cover unforeseen medical and legal fees and to provide an education fund for Ira. Graeme was passionate about education and had a wonderful experience at Pearson College in his youth and I hope to be able to provide something similar for Ira when the time comes. Please do not feel obligated to donate. Graeme himself was always very critical of these types of campaigns. As his wife, I believe that he has given his blessing for me to accept this, with the future of Ira in mind. If you decide to donate, please keep Ira in your heart and please, as the years pass, check in on him and help guide him. Please think of your donations as an investment in Ira's future. Any additional funds will be used for memorials in Graeme's name as described above. Thank you and I am so sorry for everyone's loss. Graeme was really just beginning his life in so many ways. We will miss him forever. With love, his wife, Rosa."

The outpouring of love has given the family strength to go on without him, and they send their deepest gratitude for that. Thank you.
