For people affected by the fire on Watton High St

To help out our neighbours on Watton High Street who have been affected by a fire in their businesses and homes today.

My name is Claire and I live in Watton, a small market town in Norfolk.  As a small rural town, the local economy and community rely on the local independent businesses on the high street.

Sadly on Thursday 6th February a number of these business and some residential homes were severely damaged in a fire. At least 4 businesses in one building were affected, but in a terraced row of shops that is at least 200 years old, there is likely to have been effects on neighbouring businesses and homes too.

Many people on social media have expressed their concern for our friends, neighbours and local businesses, so I thought setting up a Crowd funding campaign might enable us to offer some practical support to those directly affected.

My plan is to discuss with local community services, e.g. town and district council/the police, to establish exactly who has been impacted and then to give the money raised to a local organisation to distribute fairly among them.

I don't expect this money to take the place of sentimental things lost or to replace insurance funds.  But it is a way for us as a community to come together and show our solidarity with our neighbours, alongside other efforts we have seen, such as donations of clothing and free food for the emergency services at the scene.

I know there is a lot of community spirit in Watton and this is just one of the ways we will rally round at a time of need.
