**Fat Lib Icon Substantia Jones Needs Our Fat Help**

The short version: Rad revolutionary fatty and ballsy badass Substantia Jones, founder of the Adipositivity Project, is grappling with severe and long term health issues which are now significantly impacting her livelihood and financial stability. She's physically unable to work and her medical care and medications far exceed her insurance (just one of her necessary meds costs close to $1K/month!). Things are grim.

If you've ever been inspired by Substantia's work for our fat community and want to see her continue it, or if you just plain know and love her, please give whatever you can to help her cover basic expenses while she focuses on healing her body. Grateful doesn't even begin to cover how Substantia feels for any help granted. <3

Please share this campaign far and wide in the fatosphere, friends!

The fat version: Hi kiddos, I'm Carrie. I started my size acceptance and fat liberation journey (I know, gimme a better word and I'll use it) almost two decades ago, and I consider myself very fortunate to have been accompanied in that journey by the soul-stirring and thought-provoking work of Substantia Jones, founder of the Adipositivity Project (aka gorgeous pics of fat people on the internet).

Substantia's work on the Adipositivity Project showed me and countless others that our dazzling array of sizes and shapes of fat bodies are flawed and beautiful. Soft and strong. Demure and powerfully erotic. Revolutionary and just going about our day. And more than anything, just as valid as any other kind of body. Just as deserving of love, consideration, admiration, and respect.

As if Adipositivity weren't enough, Substantia also does speaking engagements on the topics of size acceptance and fat discrimination. I attended one for a workplace, and as we were leaving, a woman at the reception desk beckoned us over and fervently thanked Substantia for her talk, describing it as "eye-opening". That's the kind of life-altering impact this sheer force of nature masquerading as a vibrant fat ginger with traffic-stopping red lipstick has on people. We need her here, well and whole.

Substantia has Stage 3 Kidney Disease, the result of taking NSAIDS daily for decades, following being hit by a drunk driver. And since June, she’s been battling severe Hyperkalemia, an electrolyte/metabolic disorder caused by the impaired kidney function. The potassium in her blood is so high, it’s reached life threatening levels. In August this landed her in the Critical Care Unit at Mount Sinai Hospital. It attacks the muscles, and has caused her to be unable to work since June.

The treatment and nutritional restrictions trashed her hair, so she’s now sporting a quiffed buzz cut of silver (alternating with blue, green, and purple). She loves it, and has vowed to deliver a Shakespearean taint punch to anyone who gives her crap about her current appearance. She’s already snark-attacked two people in her building, so beware, she’s developing a taste for it.

She’s been unable to update the Adipositivity Project’s website in months, and she’s also been unable to produce this year’s Adipositivity calendar and Valentine Series. But she’s determined to get back to all these things as soon as it becomes doable.

Endless thanks for reading and helping however you can, friends. Helping Substantia in her time of need is both a beautiful thank you for all of her amazing work for our behalf, and a hopeful investment in our future.
