Black Life Matters Ride Tucson
Donation protected
The Black Life Matters Ride—Tucson is a locally based effort to support the people of Ferguson, Missouri, and to support the development of stronger networks within Tucson to address issues related to racial profiling, state sanctioned violence, and education.
Because of the tremendous support of our community, we've reached our MINIMUM GOAL of $1,500, the low estimate of our costs for 6 travellers to be present as the delegation from Tucson.
Our travellers from Tucson have increased to 7 AND we're working on supporting travellers from Phoenix.
You can still help support the movement by donating - everything over $1,500 will cover:
- The additional costs of taking on new riders and supporting our Phoenix team.
- Facility and materials costs for the Tucson Black Action Initiative.
- The Michael Brown Family.
The Black Lives Matter Ride is in conjunction with a National Weekend of Action to connect individuals from across the country to trainings on non-violent resistance and local organizing strategies intended to empower local communities to address issues with racial profiling and police violence.
We intend Tucson to participate in this national movement by:
1. Sending Tucson representation to Ferguson to engage in non violence training and on-the-ground work that will support those who’ve been maintaining peaceful demonstrations since the murder of Mike Brown.
2. Working to develop a Tucson Black Action Initiative to disseminate information and build a stronger network between individuals and organizations addressing the needs of Tucson’s Black community.
Our Actual Costs Include:
3 nights of hotel stay for a approx 7 Riders: $1170.00
Transportation (rental van + gas, or contribution toward a charter bus): approx $825 - $1400
We hope to engage as many Black folks as possible in making the trip (per the request of organizers in Ferguson). Anti-racist allies can support this work through some very much needed fundraising help and by supporting events in Tucson related to showing solidarity with people of Ferguson and the campaign to end police violence and brutality.
More information about the national initiative can be found on the Black Lives Matter Ride website and facebook page.
