CARES of Farmington Hills - Food Pantry SNAP Store

Tax deductible
CARES of Farmington Hills is making a difference in our community – and we need your help to continue to grow, expand and Dream Big! In the midst of the COVID-19 crisis, we are feeding over 650+ families per month, and those numbers are growing. Our dedication to helping our guests receive the food they need is our singular focus at this time, with one important change. We are working on transforming our existing Clothing Closet into the Busch’s CARES Market – a SNAP/BRIDGE Store.

On April 1, 2020, CARES of Farmington Hills received approval from the U.S. Department of Agriculture – Food and Nutrition Service, for a permit for CARES to open a SNAP store. (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) It will be called Busch’s CARES Market and will be located on the grounds of CARES of Farmington Hills.

We have been working with Doug Busch and the Busch’s Market Family for the past year and with having received our program permit we are now able to move forward. The current COVID-19 crisis has made it crystal clear why this is a model for Food Pantries across the nation. As families face financial challenges, offering a convenient way for families to get what they need for the health and wellbeing of their family and loved ones is paramount.

We at CARES are fully aware that upwards of 50% of our current guests hold a BRIDGE card and since the COVID-19 crisis, we have taken on 100+ new families, raising the numbers we are servicing over 650+ families. Although we cannot identify how many hold a BRIDGE card, we do know that as of April 9, 2020, Governor Whitmer announced that families with children in the schools free to reduced lunch program now qualify for a BRIDGE card. Each child within a family between the ages of 5 and 18 or 19-26 special needs adults qualify for monthly BRIDGE Card benefits.

We also know, that because we are a 501(c)3, the profits from Busch’s CARES Market will go back into helping us stock our shelves in the Free Food Pantry.

But we need your help…

We need
2 Commercial Freezers
2 Commercial Refrigerators
Non-Perishable Food Shelving
Produce Stands
Upgraded Electrical
And of course, we need to stock the store.

And we are attempting to do this in record time, since the need is not going away, and in fact it is expanding. So, with your help we can accomplish this in record time.
