It is very important the we tell our story. Everyone has one. Especially the youth. Theo, Johanna and Keily are about to embark on the journey of their lives. They are a part a cultural/performance arts program, called Cambodian Lullaby, that will explore their personal stories and dig deep into their past and their family's past to help them better understand their history.
Their stories alone range from refugee experiences, gang neighborhoods and orphanage/adoption stories.
In order to know who you are, you have to know your history; your personal history.
This program, directed by Sokeo Ros, will include a trip to Cambodia for historical and family research and the exploration a child's life in Cambodia compared to a child's life in the United States. They will document all their work through journal entry, interviews, video/photo/audio and story writing. They will also volunteer at one of the community schools in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
The performance arts aspect of this program will help them explore their personal stories through theater, story telling, video projection and dance; culminating in a performance that will premiere late fall of 2017. Most of their work, writing and documentation will be expiremented and created during rehearsals for a period of months until the premiere date. And this is how they will tell their story to the public. With a performance of a Cambodian Lullaby.
The budget for this program alone exceeds $10,000. But we are asking for $4500. Other program financial assistance will come from grant funding and personal doantions. So let's make this opportunity a reality for them!
