Branching Out Play

Hello from the Branching Out team!!

Branching Out is a new play by Leo Koorhan, co-directed by Kelsi Ford and Matthew Kiesling. After a long period of isolation, we are eager to create work collaboratively again. Artistic expression and consumption are how we process the often overwhelming world around us, and theatre, in particular, provides a shared space to experience something special together. Something unpredictable, organic, and alive that only that room of people will ever know.

So why this play, and why now?

Branching Out is a coming-of-age story that explores how relationships and dynamics shift over time. Life constantly takes those we love away from us. This play unpacks the human response to that reality and questions if the love shared is enough to bring those people back. After a period where most of us were forced to isolate away from significant relationships, and we all felt that precious time was slipping away and stealing entire chapters from us, it is essential to examine our bonds with those around us.

This play also emphasizes humanity's tender relationship with nature. This earth is our home and the place that quite literally grounds us. It is vital to highlight the urgent importance of caring for her as the effects of climate change become more of a threat daily.

Our plan

Independently producing a live show in NYC is more complex than you'd think. It is imperative to us that we produce work that is of the highest quality possible. We want to create something that we, our cast and our creative team are proud of, which can be utilized to boost us all forward in our career and artistic goals.

This vision includes compensating skilled designers, stage managers, and actors for what they're worth and budgeting appropriately for design needs, rehearsal space, and a performance venue.
