Hello everyone,
For those of you who know us personally, or through an acquaintance, know that we have been blessed with 4 of the most beautiful girls, who are the light of my life.
Our youngest daughter, Aubrey Quinn has recently been diagnosed with severe case of Plagiocephaly. When I gave birth to Aubrey, she became stuck on my cervix, and it caused a large crease along the top of her skull, from ear to ear. We noticed not long after Aubrey was born that her skull was slightly mishapened, and discussed it with her paediatrician about what we could do to correct the problem. Unfortunately with how soft Aubrey's skull is, those suggestions did not help correct her issues and she developed a severe case quite quickly.
(What is not visible in this photo is the shape and location of Aubrey's ear since her skull has become mishapen)
While plagiocephaly won’t have any lasting harmful effects on Aubrey's neurological development, it is more than likely that, left untreated, that her head will remain misshapen into adulthood. If left untreated Aubrey will experience several issues:
-Noticeable facial asymmetry
-Poorly fitting eyeglasses
-Poorly fitting safety equipment, including sports helmets.
-Visible flat areas with short or cropped hairstyles
-Jaw misalignment resulting in a crossbite or underbite
There is also the cosmetic issue as well, which may sound vain to some, but as Aubrey grows, I would hate to see her feel insecure about herself because of this being left untreated.
(This picture shows the front of Aubrey's face on the right, compared to the left with is a normal skull shape)
It is very important to treat this with a DOC Band treatment ASAP, the sooner we treat her, the less time and amount of bands she will need. The first bad will cost minmum $2000, and she will wear it for only 8 weeks, as the band doesn't grow with the child. She will need a 2ndband immediately after this band for 3-4 months, and possibly a 3rd band after that.
The Craniologist office submitted all the paperwork to our insurance company, and it was denied due to a plan exclusion. They will only cover a head banding device, if the child has had surgery on their skull. This has put us in a very hard position financially.
Every dollar donated will help with expenses towards her care. Her appointments, the DOC Bands, and the hour travel to the doctors office weekly. We appreciate any help that can be offered to us.
Thank you so much for reading our campaign, and thank you for all your help.
