Helloo My name is Akiko and I am a 24 year old girl living in Los Angeles :)
I was recently diagnosed with chronic Lyme disease and ever since then, my whole world has been turned upside down.
I try not to let this disease define who I am, but it's hard when your whole life feels like it is controlled by it everyday.
Lyme disease is an infection you get from a tick bite. If you treat it right away, you are good to go, but a lot of us have no idea, and develop a chronic illness overtime.
There is no complete cure, but there are ways to control the symptoms overtime.
As for me, I unknowingly have had Lyme disease for about the last 9 years, so it will take some time to heal, but I believe that there are ways that will work for me and I will get way way better and live my life one day.
I have been going through numerous treatments ( such as antibiotics & herbal supplements ) for a while, but there is no guarantee that it will work or how long it will take, and at this point, I only seem to be getting worse and worse.
It's been hard to stay positive but recently, I found out about a doctor in Germany who works with chronic Lyme disease patients.
I spoke to a woman who has experienced this, and she said it was the best decision of her life. Also, even my lyme doctor here in California strongly recommended visiting the specialist, saying her colleagues have been learning from him the last couple years.
Ever since I found this out, I have felt so hopeful and so excited at the chance of getting myself better.
Unfortunately, it is pretty pricey considering the long stay ( I would be there for about a month ) and all the medical expenses, which is hard for us to afford.
So my boyfriend (who has been going through this with me from the start and supporting me) and I decided to start this donation. He helped me create this video and we are so so excited and hopeful.
