Family and Friends:

Our beloved Christopher Kavanaugh has fallen extremely ill after being confirmed to have Covid-19.

Many of you know Chris is a hard lion on the outside with a heart of gold on the inside. He has never stopped short to help family, friends, neighbors and even those he doesn’t know. He’s a hard worker, never gives up and never stops going after anything he sets his mind to.

Chris has spent two years married to the love of his life, Rachelle (Chelle). They married in the Philippines and waited for Rachelle’s paperwork so she could arrive home in the US with Chris. Covid struck the world and Rachelle was unable to leave. After months and years of waiting anxiously and growing weary, he got the call, “I have my paperwork. I just need a flight.” And so, after years of courtship and two years of marriage, they would finally be united as Husband and Wife here in their Florida Home. Rachelle arrived on July 5th. They were inseparable.

On August 6th, everything changed when Chris and Rachelle traveled home from Georgia. The previous week on August 1st Chris felt “dehydrated” and “overworked.” During their travels and Rachelle fell ill. Upon arriving home Rachelle was tested and confirmed to have the Covid virus. Their good neighbor (an Emergency Responder) and his wife gave both Chris and Rachelle an oxygen monitor and thermometer to keep an eye on themselves. They got them cases of Gatorade to ensure they kept their hydration up. That night Chris’s oxygen level went down significantly. His neighbor told him he should go to the ER. Chris’s great friend Gary came over and took him. At 12:37am Chris let his neighbor know he was being released from the ER.

August 7th, both Chris and Rachelle were very ill. Both could hardly breath or move with neighbors and friends watching over them, the night quickly turned to morning and a change for the worse. Around 4:00am on the morning of August 8th Chris’s oxygen had dropped to only 35. Rachelle contacted Diane (Chris’s Mom) and the neighbors. A call to 911 quickly proved necessary. As the medics arrived Chris’s neighbor helped the medics with information while Rachelle stayed near his side as the medic loaded Chris onto a stretcher. Rachelle, fearful, scared and still sick with Covid herself was watching as they took her husband to the hospital. The paramedic pulled the neighbor aside and said, “Ma’am, you need to explain to her how severe this is. We do not know the outcome.”

Chris was admitted to the hospital and diagnosed with Covid Phenomena. He currently sits at Melbourne West Regional Hospital on a ventilator. His blood levels, oxygen, platelets, and more are all numbers changing every day. However, one thing remains clear from the doctor, “His lungs are not working. You have to be patient and pray.” It has been eleven days as he lays in ICU with prayers surrounding him for a full recovery.

In the time Chris has been in ICU, Rachelle’s oxygen dropped. The neighbors helped to monitor here every three hours. The neighbor’s wife was able to call a friend who is from the Philippines. She too, is a nurse. She came over and visited with Rachelle while sharing stories and communicating in her native language. It was because of this; Rachelle could really understand she needed to go to the ER. She was taken to the ER and released with medications. As the neighbor and Diane rushed to take care of things, Rachelle was able to get the needed medications for her body. She has been provided with meals and groceries every step of the way and constantly has the neighbor or Diane checking on her. She is currently making a full recovery back to health and strength.

For the last eleven days, Chris’s mom and Chris’s neighbors have been doing much needed behind the scenes support. His mom has continued to take care of his shop. There are over head costs associated with keeping Dockside Marina open. As you know, owning a business is a challenge. If you aren’t working, you aren’t making money.

At home, Chris’s neighbors have been taking care of Rachelle. She has groceries, special requests, dog food, medicine, clothes, and anything else needed to support her. She has constant communication to support her emotional and mental health as well as the neighbors inviting her to conversate about her homeland. She loves to share stories and you can see her face light up. You can imagine the worry and fear inside her heart as she thinks about her husband. Her heart is pure and true with a deep love for Chris. The kind of love he has always deserved to have.

This page has been set up to help support the other needs Chris has. 100% of the proceeds will go to the following (to include, but not limited to):

  • Melbourne Regional Emergency Room Medical Bill Payments (Chris’s first visit)
  • Melbourne Regional Hospital Medical Bill Payments (Ongoing ICU charges)
  • Melbourne Regional Emergency Room Medical Bill Payments (Rachelle’s visit)
  • Medical Insurance Monthly Premium
  • Dockside Marina Building Rent
  • Dockside Marina Building Utilities
  • Kavanaugh Trucking Licenses and Fees
  • Kavanaugh Home Mortgage
  • Kavanaugh Home Utilities
  • Kavanaugh Groceries

Diane will allocate the funds directly to payments for all the above. Every little bit will help support Chris as we all fervently pray and wait to see him recover. It will be a long road. When he comes out of this, he will need ongoing physical therapy. He will not be able to jump off the bed and get right back to work. He and his family have a long road ahead of them.

If you’ve been blessed by Chris, please consider blessing him in this way with a donation to help support him and his wife.

Chris has been a neighbor for seven years. My husband is away many months of the year. In those seven years he has taught my three boys how to mow the lawn, remove trees and fix their basketball goal. One of his favorite things to teach the kids is, “don’t come outside without having shoes on.” He still tells our oldest that today. Stops him in his tracks, “Go back inside and get your shoes on.” They obey him every time. Chris has shown the boys how to take care of a dog. He swims with them; he comes over and has game night with them. Car wont start? Chris wakes up and comes out to help. Need a ride to the rental car? Chris is happy to take you. Kids are chipping tile? Nope, Chris is taking the tools and showing them how to properly do it. Dinner time, Chris would love to have some food. Birthday time, we love bringing him a cupcake with a candle to celebrate each year with him. Mouse in the garage? Don’t worry, Uncle Chris will get it.

There are no amount of stories to share that will ever amount to the extent of Chris’s love for others. We are all hurting in our own ways with thoughts and memories shared with this great man. I pray you will help support in any way to the Chris and Rachelle Kavanagh.

God Bless.
