Darren Brereton known as Cocker

Donation protected
Hello friends and family, I would firstly like to say a massive thank you to each and every one of you who has reached out with your love and support during this difficult time.

Hello I’m Lisa Coxon (Cousin of Darren), many will know me through the charity work I do with the pastor of the church in Silverdale helping the homeless and people most in need including Cocker with essential items such as sleeping bags, food, water, clothing etc and even just somebody to talk to.

On Sunday 3rd March 2024, Darren John Brereton, widely known as ‘Cocker’ in his hometown Newcastle-Under-Lyme tragically had his life taken away from him. Sadly, many of you will know that Cocker suffered with mental health issues over the years including addictions, he did have love and support from the family, especially his Mum who was always there for him until sadly she passed away in December just gone. Sadly due to battling with mental health and addictions for many years, Cocker struggled with living in homes with responsibilities, he felt more safer living in the outdoors.

Any donations raised by the generosity of you all will be put towards the following costs to help give Cocker the best possible send off.
  • Flowers
  • We would also like to use the funds to donate to The Night Shelter which has helped and supported Cocker over the years and also The Salvation Army who have also helped Cocker many times over the years.
  • We would also like to use the funds to either pay for a headstone or a memorial so everyone who knew and loved Darren have somewhere to go and remember him.

Donation boxes have also been taken to the following places as they were always there to support Cocker through his times of need.

Dancing Octopus Fish and Chip Shop
12 Pool Dam, Newcastle-Under-Lyme, ST5 2RR

Cornwell’s Chemist
11 High St, Newcastle-under-Lyme, Newcastle ST5 1RB

  • Cash donations will only be counted, signed and given to Lisa if there are two witnesses present, this is to ensure that all donations are accounted for at all times and deposited into the fund for Cocker. Invoices / Receipts will also be kept as we we want you all to know where and how your donations will be spent to give Cocker the send off he deserves. All cash donations will be posted on here too.

The family have also decided to set up a Facebook Page as a tribute to him, called R.I.P Cocker - Darren Brereton. Details regarding the send off will also be posted on there when they become available. We hope many of you will be able to come to pay your respects, as this is what Cocker and his late Mum June would have wanted. Please do help us get the Page out there by sharing it around so people can also share their memories, stories or even photos of Cocker throughout his life.
