On the 12 May 2014 Tasha took her beautiful 1 year old daughter Elyssa to see the doctors as she was concerned about a reflection in one of her eyes. She was immediately referred to see a specialist and a few days later everyone's worst fears were realised. Elyssa was diagnosed with Retinoblastoma. This is a very rare cancer on the retina that affects young children.
The next day Elyssa went to see the one of the UK's best Childrens hospitals in London to see another specialst who gave Tash and Phil some very bad news. Elyssa is going to lose an eye and the cancer is also in her other eye. Its going to be a tough time for the whole family with many more trips to London with extended times off work required.
This is sad, but what does it have to do with fundraising?
Unfortunately if Phil doesn't work then he doesn't get paid and as you might have noticed that petrol for trips to the capital from Blackburn isn't exactly cheap! Combined with hotels/food etc and still all the day to day bills and no wage coming in you can imagine its going to be a struggle.
So how can I help?
This is where you come in. If you can make a donation to this fundraiser then the money goes direct to Tash and Phil. They have enough to worry about at the moment and if we can help reduce the burden of a mountain of debt as well then I'm all for it!
OK I can spare some cash and i've donated, what else can I do?
This isn't just about raising cash, lets raise some awareness as well! Every parent should regulary check their childs eyes. A tell tale sign is a cloudy white pupil which might look silvery white or yellow in bright light, is often the first sign of retinoblastoma. But don't just listen to me, check out some actual websites for accurate information. Just promise me you'll check your kids eyes!
