moms medical bills

just over 2 weeks ago, i had my mother picked up by ambulance from her home. She had called me crying in pain of a headache. I assumed she was having a migraine, and tried getting her to the hospital myself. There was no way she was going to make it out the door by herself, so i had to dial 911. When we got to the hospital, she was in so much pain, that what she was saying made no sense. They tried giving her medication for the pain, but it didn't help at all. Within 2 hours of us arriving at the hospital, she was unconscious, and running a 103 fever. About an hour later, her breathing was very sporadic, and labored. About a half hour later, her oxygen levels started dropping fairly quickly, and intubation was necessary. During that time, her front teeth were knocked out, as the doctor said, it was a very difficult intubation due to swelling in her throat. She was tested for the flu, and was negative, but was given a lumbar puncture that reveled she was positive for bacterial meningitis, and also had pneumonia, add in an ear infection, and just imagine the pain she was in. She was obviously admitted into the hospital due to the illness, and has been in since then. She is now awake, and doing well. Her recovery is not going to be over night, and will probably be in the hospital for another 2-3 weeks. As many of you know, this isn't the first of an undeserving series of event for my mother, it all started when she picked up an extra shift at work, and fell and broke her shoulder on her way to her car after work. she has since lost her job because of the amount of time it took her to heal. along with losing her job, she will be losing her insurance as well. Im trying my best to help her with the "cobra" coverage, but its quite costly. Those of you reading this that know my mother personally, she has probably done you a favor in the past, so please "pay it forward" and help her if you can. She will be very grateful for anything you might be able to do.
