Help Chef The French Bulldog
Donation protected
Hi, everyone. I'm Chef, a 2-year-old French Bulldog who loves to play with other dogs and snuggle with my parents more than anything in the world. My whole butt wiggles when I'm excited, I snore and fart, I have attitude, and I'm both stubborn and sweet.
Recently, my dad took me to the park near our house so I could play with other dogs. The next morning I woke up in so much pain I could barely move. My dad was worried and took me to the ER where the doctor suspected I had a herniated disc. I was sent home with anti-inflammatories and pain medication. Knocked me right out! The next morning, however, I could no longer use my legs. They were buckling underneath me and my parents got really worried.
They brought me back to the ER and this time I saw a neurologist who diagnosed me with Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD). I was immediately scheduled for an emergency X-ray, MRI, and spinal surgery (Hemilaminectomy).
Basically, the discs between my vertebrae ruptured which compressed my spinal cord and nerves causing severe pain and partial paralysis in my back legs.
My mom and dad are worried. After my surgery, I will need 8-12 weeks of very intensive care. My parents will have to carry my legs in a sling until I learn to walk again. I will be on strict crate rest and will have to undergo physical therapy until I can regain strength in my legs. This will be a lifestyle change for me and I won’t be able to play with other puppies as I used to.

Not only are my parents worried emotionally, but financially. They do not have pet insurance (humans – please get pet insurance & Frenchie owners beware). My surgery cost starts at $7,000. This does not include the four overnight visits before and after my surgery, multiple follow-up appointments with the neurologist, medications, and physical therapy. My mom and dad love me so much and I am asking you to consider helping them out. Any donation, big or small, would be appreciated more than you could ever know.
Thank you all for taking the time to read my story. It does not end here :)
IVDD can occur in any dog breed. If interested in learning more, below is a link to a blog about two success stories.
