My friend Kelsie Snow is one of the best humans out there. She is navigating an absolutely harrowing time and it would mean so much if you could rally around her right now. (You can learn more about Kelsie and her family here.)

Kelsie's husband Chris was diagnosed with ALS four years ago. Chris confronted his disease with grace, positivity, and hope. He fought with courage and unwavering determination for every single day he got with his wife and two young children, making countless beautiful memories with them that they will cherish forever.

Tragically, on September 26th, two days after walking into a hockey rink to watch his son play a game, Chris suddenly became unresponsive and suffered subsequent cardiac arrest. Doctors were able to revive him but his brain was without oxygen for too long. On September 27th, tests revealed that Chris would not be able to recover. In life, Chris offered his body to a clinical trial to help others, and in death he will do the same. He remains on life support while organ donation is arranged.

Chris had the best smile Kelsie has ever seen. The goal of this fundraiser is simple: to provide Kelsie and her two kids with the financial security needed to be able to share as many smiles together in Chris' honor as they can in the coming years. I'm setting an ambitious fundraising goal in part because Kelsie gave up her career to move to Canada and start a family, when Chris was given an opportunity to work for the Calgary Flames. In the years since, she has stayed home to raise their children and has been Chris’ devoted caretaker as his illness progressed. This fundraiser has no end date, because grief has no end date.

I have rarely in my life been so immediately struck by a person's beauty, but in Kelsie I truly see the best in humanity. Her kids have this same quality – the wisdom and compassion they have shown in moments of hardship have stopped me in my tracks. It is a privilege to know her and to have learned from her. Thank you so much for considering helping her and her family out. I should note that Kelsie, being the unassuming person she is, was hesitant for me to set this up, but I insisted.

Any donation is appreciated – and please do share with your family and friends.

With love,
Maya
