20K Campaign for Infant and Maternal Mortality

According to research, African American women are nearly four times more likely to die from pregnancy related complications than are white women. African American women are also two to three times more likely to experience preterm birth, and three times more likely to give birth to a low birthweight infant. African American infants are about 230 percent more likely than white infants to die before their first birthdays.
Our heartbeat is to make exceptional prenatal care accessible to EVERY woman, regardless of her demographic background; and to eliminate the racial disparity in birth outcomes among African American women and their babies.
The launch of our February 20K Campaign for Infant and Maternal Mortality is a collaborative effort to eliminate the racial disparity in birth outcomes among African American women and their babies. Every financial contribution of this campaign goes toward making culturally competent midwifery care and birth services easily accessible to women of color and their babies. This includes, but is not limited to:
Preconception counseling
Prenatal care
Intrapartum care (labor and delivery)
Postpartum care
Newborn care
This work is personal for us....this advocating for Black mothers and Black babies and Black families. Black History is not only a celebration of how far we’ve come, but it is the acknowledgement that we are still in the fight of our lives. These are our babies, our sisters, our aunties, our brothers, our uncles, our papis, and madeas. THIS. IS. US. The conversation cannot end now. It cannot end here. We are linking arms and changing the course of Black History from right where we stand.
