High School Students' Dream Trip

Donation protected
Greetings! I am a dual-credit English teacher at Capt. John L. Chapin High School, a public school in El Paso, Texas. I have a group of high school juniors and seniors taking college level English courses. We are taking a trip to London, Wales, and Ireland in March, 2015 through Exolorica, an educational tour agency. The trip will take the place over spring break week and is costing each student approx. $3000.  Twelve students have signed up and are going on the trip. The backgrounds of my students vary greatly; military dependents, bi-national, and local El Pasoans.  Some students have never been out of El Paso and a couple are experienced international travelers.

Initially, I made this page to raise money to pay for more of my students to go on the trip; the deadline for payment has passed and I am satisfied with the small, yet, excited group of 12. While the students have paid for the majority of their trip, there is an opportunity to go on extra educational excursions. One opportunity is  to go on a guided tour of the Winsdor Castle in London; this excursion will cost each student and the two chaperones an addition $80. The second opportunity is to experience a tradition Irish folklore evening in Dublin; the cost for this is an additional $65.

For most the students going on this trip, the cost has placed an great burden on their families; however, their families understand that this an education opportunity the students are not likely to have again. Instead of asking the students to pay an addition $145, I am asking you, my family, friends, co-workers, and acquaintances, to help me give these 12 amazing students the gift of the excursions.

Please understand, to the students this is not just a trip; this is an opportunity to witness literature and history, to be able to go see where Lady Jane Grey wrote letters to father prior to her execution, to visit the birthplace Shakespeare, and step in the footprints of the thousands of starving and suffering Irish who inspired Swift to write “A Modest Proposal.”

You don't have to give much; every dollar is sincerely and vastly apprecicated. Please accept my greatest  gratitude for you assistance.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Ashley Swarthout
