Our beautiful and dear Monica Cuellar Nava (27 years old) has been diagnosed with Plasmacytoma, a form of blood cancer. Monica was living a normal life as she worked towards finishing up the final details for her big day, October 4th. Only 3 weeks away from her wedding day she found herself in Emergency at Methodist Hospital. It all happened in an instant as she crossed a small fence and suddenly heard a “POP in her hip. Her fiancé drove her to ER and it was then that her whole life was changing faster than she ever imagined. Once the X-rays and tests came back, she was immediately told there was a spot on her hip area and that worse case scenario it could be cancer. After days and days of medical appointments, a bone marrow test and being pricked for tubes and tubes of blood, on September 11th, she got the final news. She had cancer. This was a total shocker for someone who has been healthy their entire life and had no medical issues at all. This definitely was not the news Monica and Mark, expected to hear just weeks away from one of the happiest days of their life. When most brides and grooms are embracing the mix of happy and nervous emotions as they prepare to say I Do, Monica and Mark were faced with attending countless doctor appointments to get information on what needed to be done to get Monica healthy.
It was devastating for them, their family and friends. For those that know Monica or have been around her through this difficult time, you have all witnessed the amazing strength and a positive attitude she has demonstrated. She did not allow this terrible disease to beat her down. She stayed strong through the weeks and she and Mark, enjoyed their wedding day to the fullest! Although Monica is being such a strong woman, she still needs a strong team behind her for prayers and support, to continue fighting this horrible disease. Monica and Mark are young and full of life and love to give. Like most couples, they planned on starting a family of their own. Since Monica will have to undergo radiation treatments, she has started fertility procedures.
As Monica continues this fight, it is important that she focus on her health. Both Monica and Mark will need all the support possible to maintain a positive attitude. We all know how heavy of a burden medical expenses can be on someone and the stress that comes when you realize so many necessary medical procedures are not covered by insurance. Those expenses have begun to pile up. Many family members and friends have asked how they can help. So we have set up this page to give her friends and family, both near and far, the opportunity to help relieve some of the financial strain. This is just another form of demonstrating your love and support. These donations will be used to cover any medical expenses not paid for by the insurance throughout Monica’s treatment.
