Eureka: Heroism & Transcendence

Donation protected

Who?

The Eureka Orchestra under conductor Kristo Kondakci will present a concert featuring guitarist Robert Bekkers  and soprano Yelena Dudochkin.

Why?
We call our concerts "Eureka events," with the goal of enrolling everyone (musicians and audiences alike) into the music we are creating and experiencing together; we strive for everyone to share in the eureka moment that a great work of art can inspire.

We believe that making music is one of the most beautiful acts of human sharing; that is to say, the sharing of emotions in order to connect people with each other.

When fulfilled in a genuine, pure, and thoughtful capacity, music acts as a platform for helping people to wake up and come alive, to connect deeply with themselves and others, and choose a life of passion, purpose, and self-responsibility.

What?

Beethoven's Egmont Overture
Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez
Mahler's Symphony No. 4, arranged for chamber orchestra by Yoon Jae Lee

The theme is Heroism and Transcendence, as each work explores these ideas through a different lens, from the most intimate and personal to the most grand.

The Beethoven depicts the struggle between an individual and the collective, where the individual is ultimately sacrificed at the hands of the collective.

The Rodrigo portrays the history of Spain in its glory as well as in its tragedy. The music focuses around the quintessential Spanish instrument: the guitar.

The Mahler is about tradition & innocence vs. the seductiveness of banality, culminating in a song about a child's reaction to being in heaven, as represented by a soprano soloist.

WHY GIVE?
Organizing a concert includes many costs, such as music rental, space rental, special instrument rental, and publicity. While it is ticketed, the money from sales will go directly to the orchestra members and will not defray other expenses.

To make sure that we can achieve our goal, we need YOUR help!

Why we are asking for $2000:

Music rental: $750
Space rental: $100
Instrument rental: $250
Stage/ticketmaster crew: $100
Soloists: $400 x 2

When? May 16th, 4 PM

Where? St. John's Church, Jamaica Plain
