For one week only, Niamh Ryan’s sparkling new play, Eternal Youth will open at the historic Irondale Theatre Center after a sold out run in Ireland this past February. In this visceral spoken word play, two teens grapple with the reality of adulthood after their high school graduation. A story told with charm, vigor and a bit of fairy dust, Eternal Youth is a celebration of the anxieties of growing up and a reminder that we are never alone.
At the heart of Eternal Youth is a mission of mental health education. A portion of the proceeds from ticket sales, at-the-door donations, and support on this GoFundMe will go directly to Active Minds, the nation’s only nonprofit organization dedicated to utilizing the student voice to raise mental health awareness among college students. A facilitated discussion promoting self-care, mental health advocacy, and suicide prevention will follow each performance, and resources for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline and Crisis Text Line will be available for audience members.
“I was compelled to write this play because I think school years don’t get enough spotlight in theatre,” says playwright Niamh Ryan, who will also be portraying ‘Ashley’ in the Irondale production. “People must forget (or maybe want to forget) the hilarity of their most embarrassing moments, and the way their world looked through teen-tinted glasses. This show, Eternal Youth, is a hybrid between a spoken-word poetry performance and a traditional play. I wanted to write in a form that would come across as personal and find a new, more interactive way of telling a coming- of-age story.”
Eternal Youth will be running July 12th, 13th, 14th and 15th at 8:00pm, with a Matinee performance Saturday the 15th at 3:00pm at the Irondale Theatre Center at 85 S Oxford St, Brooklyn, NY.

Directed by New York-based theatre artist, Emma Gutt, Eternal Youth will also star Irish actor, Denis Haugh, who will be performing alongside Ryan, and features the scenic design talents of Natalie Carney.
