Nate’s Amazing Friends Say They Want to Help!
A few minutes before midnight on Sept 6, Nate was riding his scooter home from work at Cowboy Star (SD’s best steak house!). Just 2 blocks from home, Nate was hit head on by an on-coming car that suddenly veered to turn left with no warning, no turn signal, and no chance for him to stop or turn out of the way. Since then Nate has undergone numerous surgeries and procedures, endured pain he describes as ‘beyond anything I imagined possible’. And, all this time his amazing wife Amanda has been at his side, spending every night at the hospital to be sure he never wakes to find himself alone.
The road ahead is long and tough, but possible. Nate and Amanda are overwhelmed with gratitude that he was spared the too-often typical injuries for this kind of collision – head trauma, back or neck injuries, internal injuries. Or worse… He’s broken badly, but his miracle-working ortho docs at UCSD Medical Center have saved his crushed left shoulder (ER trauma nurse almost fainted at the X-rays) and badly shattered legs. Months of treatment and physical therapy lie ahead. Which of course means months out of work for both Nate and Amanda, who is committed to be there at his side to help make it happen.
Nate and Amanda are blown away by the love and support that’s been showered on them by their amazing friends and family. Many have asked for a way to help. Medical bills and living expenses are beyond calculating at this time, but will be massive, for sure. Nate and Amanda remain grateful and hopeful. And to everyone who’s shared their love and concern – there are simply no words to thank you all enough.
