Endgame - The Premise

Hi, I'm Andrew Hines of Monterey County, California. With Daniel Kalban of Brooklyn, New York, I have put together a four-part script introducing some original characters set in Monterey County, California. By the time we join our heroes, they have been collectively fighting their adversaries, the Legion, for many years. Some are veterans of this long war, while others are fairly new and are still discovering the limits of their powers. Of course, not everything is black and white when you're fighting those whose moral compasses may be skewed or just downright broken. There will be battles both physical and mental along the way as we watch the characters grow and adapt. As the fighting continues and lines are crossed, what began as a clearly contrasted "never-ending struggle" will become an all-out war and very possibly begin a modern Twilight of the Gods.

We have two variant covers for this project, one by Deviant Art community members Phil Cho and Ace Continuado.

Remember, this is part 1 of 4 and while things may get revved up in a hurry, the conclusion is something that will come in due time and may even leave you wanting more.

The Talent - Who's Making It Happen

We, the writers, are both college graduates and lifelong comic fans. I, Andrew Hines, am a 29 year old college graduate (CSU Monterey Bay) and 21-year resident of Monterey County, California where Endgame is largely centered and the Hero Corps call home. The characters came to me over the last 7 years, but only after revisiting Mark Waid's Kingdom Come and Empire and Mark Millar's Wanted, did the story begin to take shape in my imagination. From there, it was largely a matter of time until I found a willing partnership with Daniel Kalban.

Daniel Kalban is a 27 year old Brooklyn native who writes the webcomic The Eagle, as well as a reporter for Word of the Nerd. A comics reader since childhood, he is proud to be part of the team working on Endgame and helping Andrew Hines to bring this world of heroes and villains to life.

The art is a combined effort from penciller/inker Marcio Abreu and colorist Audriano Augusto. Both of these artists are from Brazil and have worked well together in the past on titles like Red Sonja from Dynamite Entertainment as well as several titles where they worked well with other artists.

The Characters - Hero Corps and the Legion

The Hero Corps consists of 10 heroic characters, each based on some archetypal version of the superheroes we know and love. They fight against the same number of villains that make up The Legion. There are some familial and romantic links here and there on both sides and even some rather long histories, as you might expect.

The Hero Corps is made up of a group of folks that just want to use their skills and abilities to see justice done. Like Superman and Shazam before him, Omega is the powerhouse and spokesman for the group. McKnight is the Batman-like strategist and like Wolverine, is essentially immortal. His daughter, Typhoon, has similar abilities along with being able to control and shape water to her will. Ventus is Hero Corps' resident speedster, like Quicksilver and the Flash before him.

The Legion consists of Omega's older brother and father, Hunter and Overlord (respectively) who act as the heads of the group. Following in their footsteps are Dr Shinka, a geneticist and cybernetics expert and his henchman, the wolf-man known as Furball. As shiftless as her namesake, Sandstorm can control her molecular structure and reshape either parts or the whole of her body into anything she can imagine. La Maestra is her mentor, teaching her how to use her powers for nefarious purposes.

For Daniel and I, this is our first shot at superhero comics and the chance to see a lifelong dream come true. We are trying to bring you, as fans, everything that makes superhero comics entertaining. We're trying to bring something different to the industry as well, even if it only seems like a change of scenery on the surface. An epic story is really what you're going to get, one issue at a time. From there, a world of fantasy and awe-inspiring powers and adventure await.

Our Thanks! . . .  No, Seriously. THANK YOU!!

We will be quite thankful, enough to give you plenty of incentives to donate your hard-earned money. We will also have a Thank You page in the first issue, where your contribution will be noted. If you tag #GoFundMe in a tweet to Daniel or I, we can even answer questions spoiler-free. If we get funded here, we will remember you and anyone who wishes may be able to work on our planned projects in the future, as we hope to expand our bodies of work in the coming year. The bottom line is, if you help us, we can help you.
