Climbers History Project

Donation protected

A grassroots project to document the history of the climbers movement through in person interviews w the climbers who dedicated their lives behind the scenes to the development of our sport.

The first project will be in the Verdon Gorge in France, documenting the rise of the sport climbing movement, and the magic of the late 70's and early 80's.

This project will produce several lengthy interviews with prominent members of the early Verdon climbing communities and interviews with current climbers whom I meet in Verdon.

The second project will take place in Morocco, documenting and re-discovering the adventure trad climbing accomplishments of Tafraoute and Todra Gorge.

This project involves tracking down first ascensionists and local Moroccan climbers, interviewing them, and reprotecting/ repeating their routes.

The Climber's History Project is evolving into a community effort, much like a climbers version of NPR's story corps. A place where climbers can interview their friends and collect the stories that have created the movement.

The project aim is to collect a catalogue of interviews with historical value to current and future generations of climbers. This will be available on the Climbers History Project's YouTube channel at;

www.youtube.com/channel/UCOC3R9FemdPPcLed_1TnTYw

There is a possibility of creating several short retrospective documentaries and films detailing climbing beta of different areas as well.

Money raised will go into technical equipment (video camera, microphone) that will be required for the interviews.
