Hello Everyone!
I've never been one to ask for money, but this is something very important to me and my family. In May 2013 we were contacted by someone who could no longer care for a blue and gold macaw. Being a Veterinary Assistant who has previously rescued birds, the word was out that I might be willing to do a rescue and rehabilition with the anticipation that he would eventually be rehomed. So, it happened. When we showed up to get "Frodo", he was extrememly cage aggressive and underweight. It was obvious to us why she could no longer care for him.
His first week with us was very hard. We had never taken on a bird his size and were slightly intimidated by his massive beak. But with a lot of kind words and treats, Frodo was a massive sweetheart within weeks.. Him and daughter clicked very quickly. He was very attatched to her.
But, unfortunately, we decided to stay true to the idea of rehoming him, and found what was thought to be the perfect home after one short year. We put him up for adoption with a 600$ rehoming fee that came with his cage and stand along with a weeks worth of food.
But on September 16th we got a call from his owner saying that she could no longer care for him after 6 months. Frodo has been plucking feathers, which is something birds do when they are stressed, and has stopped eating. He has yet to calm down since we rehomed him and is extremely upset. She wants 600 dollars back and if we can't produce it in three weeks she will be putting him up for sale on craigslist where we will most likely never see or hear from him again.
My family loves and misses him very much and we just want to see him back in a stable environment. Honestly, anything you can give will help. We are pretty stable financially and can definitely care for him, but we have just started to get caught up on our bills and we cannot drop 600$ all at once in such a short notice. My daughter is a college student and working hard to try to earn the money!
