THE BLACK LAB is a not for profit social space located on unceded Coast Salish land in Vancouver (B.C.). We are a newly-opening, collectively organized, volunteer-run DIY punk space which promotes independent music and anti-oppressive ideas and practices. Our space is located in the downtown eastside of Vancouver, a neighborhood which has been and continues to be an epicenter of resistance against colonization, the drug war, gentrification, and many other types of capitalist oppressions.
THE BLACK LAB will serve as a venue for DIY punk shows, with a focus on bands with women, queers, trans people, and people of colour in them. We will also be hosting talks, discussion groups, workshops, film nights, and other community-building events, as well as a reading library of zines and books.
We at THE BLACK LAB are seeking donations to help us pay for rent, build a stage, do other renovations, and to help us make some key structural repairs to the building (eg. plumbing issues, electrical, etc.). By donating you'll help us keep shows affordable and the space open and available for touring bands and other events. Every little bit helps us reach our goal of staying open and continuing to support DIY punx.
