My name is Reagan Yeoman and today is September 11th, 2014. Today also marks a little over 5 months of me being on testosterone. This has taken some by surprise, while others saw this coming since my early childhood. Though this journey is just beginning, I have learnt that being transgender isn’t something to be hidden or something to be ashamed of. The term “transgender” is defined as being a person who either identifies with or expresses a gender identity that differs from the one which corresponds to the person’s sex at birth. I identify and express myself as a male. The next step in my transition is to undergo a procedure called a double mastectomy, which is why I am making this video. A double mastectomy is the complete removal of breast tissue along with a nipple graft. After countless hours of research, the surgeon I have chosen for this procedure is Dr. Mclean who is located in Mississauga, Ontario. Yesterday was an exciting day for me as I got the date for my surgery- October 23rd, 2014. Since I have chosen to go out of the province for this procedure, it is not covered under Alberta Health Care. The procedure costs a little under 8000 out of pocket, not including medication. Any help that I could get from friends, family, or anyone would mean the world to me. Even if it's just a dollar, that's one dollar closer to me becoming who I should be.
