A complete start up, grassroots farm. A 125 acre farm in south central Massachusetts with established fruit orchards, perennial vegetables, hay, and corn. Goals are to gain certified organic status with a wide variety of fruits and vegetables, free range organic egg chickens and meat chickens, grass fed beef, honey and eventually milk goats, draft horses.
This is my dream, my passion, to provide people with REAL food and build awareness around what is being provided in traditional grocery stores is not real food, nor absolutely healthy food. I have dedicated my life to the care of animals, I don't do it for the pay, that's apparent, or I wouldn't be campaigning every avenue possible for financial resources. My second, but equal passion is nutrition.
Goals are to add to my current egg chickens, add to the vegetable crops extensively, begin a meat chicken house, have a roadside stand, eventually turning into a CSA, donating to the local food pantry as often as possible. I would love to offer land to the local elementary, middle, and high schools to learn about sustainable agriculture, small space gardening, and eating/producing real food.
Why is the financial bar so high? We are starting from scratch, all we have is the land. Need tractors, attachments, seed, and mulch. Need to start the process to get certified as an organic farm. Need to pay for organic feed and supplies for the birds to get through the hard New England winters. I would have set the bar higher, but for now we have this guesstimate in place and will change as the need arises.
