EASTxMIDWEST Community Magazine

EASTxMIDWEST (Eastern Oklahoma County by way of Midwest City) is a FREE local community magazine focusing on creating an informational bi-monthly publication to highlight the people and events that make Midwest City the best place to live.

In 1943, W.P. "Bill" Atkinson created a community to sit north of the new Midwest Air Depot and thoughtfully named it, Midwest City.  This new city was home to military families and base employees who worked hard and fought hard for our country during World War II.

Atkinson, along with 14 developers and a land planner named Stewart Mott, worked to create a safe and family friendly city.  Neighborhood streets were curved to stop speeding and designed for pedestrian friendly access to schools and shopping centers nearby.

While her husband was building infrastructure for new homes and businesses, Mrs. Atkinson created many clubs and groups to help facility a place of community and involvement among residents.

In 1951, Midwest City earned the designation of "America's Model City" by the National Association of Home Builders for its design.

72 years later, Midwest City and the base, now known as Tinker Air Force Base, are still just as bustling and growing as the day they were established.

EASTxMIDWEST would like to continue fostering a place of community and resident involvement by delivering information editorials that engage and inform both residents and visitors to our city's events and its citizens.

Currently, we are asking for $5,000 to fund this initiative.  Funds will provide us with business start up costs, equipment, software licensing and web hosting.

(Check out our Donor Reward Levels to see how you can get this shirt pictured below, and many other rewards!)

EASTxMIDWEST will cover local events, city history, new businesses, community clubs and groups, economic development, life, food and drink, exemplary citizens, and community interest stories along with recent happenings.

(As we feel, both EastWord News and the Midwest City Beacon do great at covering local sports, and so this is something we will not be featuring.)

OUR START - EASTxMIDWEST
The inaugural issue and upto 2 additional subsequent issues will be strictly digital.  We have chosen Issuu as our Digital Publishing Platform.   This is the same DPP used by the Oklahoma Gazette, Slice Magazine, Moore Monthly, Oklahoma Magazine, Vypes Highschool Sports, and many other local publications.

Issuu is supported on Mac, PC, Android, iOS and many tablet platforms.

These first issues will be advertising free and range from 20-32 pages.  Digital issues will help keep our start up costs low while we develop a community following and readership.

Once we have established a base readership and following, we will begin ad sales for both print and online.  These sales will allow us to branch from digital to tangible published pieces and pay staff.  (McCormick Armstrong is our chosen printer.)  We will continue to also release digital issues through the Issuu Digitial Publishing Platform for online reading.

Distribution will cover hotels, travel centers, convenience stores, and select retailers.

The possibility of jumping from a bi-monthly publication to a monthly publication will depend on readership and popularity, a goal we plan to accomplish after our first year.
