Opladen Family ALS Fund

Donation protected
Steve Opladen is a very private man.  He is a loving husband and father and has spent much of his free time supporting youth hockey in Rochester, NY as well as coaching and attending his children’s hockey games and attending their soccer games, lacrosse games, golf matches and any other activities they chose to participate in.

During the last week of February 2016, Steve was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig, ice bucket challenge) a progressive neurodegenerative disease affecting nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord.  This was a tragic diagnosis as the family has been trying to heal from the sudden death of their son/brother in 2012 at the age of 17, days before his high school graduation.   Steve has also previously battled cancer.

No family should have to deal with one major life crisis; much less three of them yet the Opladen family is handling this recent diagnosis with strength and love.  They are a private family who never asks for anything from others and who always step in to help when they see others in need.  With one child graduating from high school and going on to college and another still in high school, in addition to their increasing medical expenses, the expense of moving to a more accessible home and the inevitable loss of income – costs are already starting to pile up.

We started this fund because we want the Opladen’s to know that there is a huge support system available to them that is willing to help in any way possible.  We want to ensure that Steve and his family are well taken care of for the duration of this disease.  If you are looking for a way to show your support to the Opladen family, we encourage contributions to this fund.  Please respect their privacy during this time as they are trying to work through the impact that this diagnosis is having on their family.  Any financial support that you contribute will be greatly appreciated.
