Sofia for Marie

Marie Cherote is my friend, my old neighbour, mum to my favourite babysitters and best friend to my dog Max. She is always giving to others and always makes me feel happy. Most of all, I know Marie would never ask for anything because she is kind and generous and only knows one way to live...., to give.
When I needed a new netball skirt, I went to her house, but she does that for everyone. I don’t know how she knows all the girls names, but she does. She is like magic, because whenever I go to netball, she is always there making sure all the girls and teams are okay.
Do you know Marie was Citizen of the Year in 2012? This is a very special award and is only given to someone who is recognised for giving so much to the community. She is President of the Northbridge Netball Club and has been for nearly 10 years. She is also Business Administrator for NSNA and was Secretary for 7 years. Oh, and she runs the canteen, and she does all the ordering for everything from netball skirts to the red frogs AND when we are all home at night, she is still at netball! AND, she never, ever, ever stops giving. And for all of this, she volunteers her time.
I love Marie, but not for all the reasons that Mum tells me so, but for all the reasons I know. And what I do know is that so many people want to help Marie and have been asking how. She will really need the support of her community when she gets to leave hospital and during her rehabilitation. I asked Mum how she will get back home and upstairs to her bedroom and she told me that’s what the rehabilitation will help her to do, but that it will take time. So if you can help me to raise money for Marie, every dollar will help to bring back her beautiful smile to the netball courts and back to her home.
