Hi Everyone,
This is Sydney McCann, an outgoing 16 year old that attends Graham High School! She is an  A/B honor roll student athlete! She plays softball and volleyball for her high school and also for a travel team. She hopes that one day she will be able to get a full ride to a D1 University to play either or both sports! Her story begins back at the begining of August when we were at Myrtle Beach for a week long softball tournament. She played the first couple days with no problems then all of a sudden she completely lost her peripheral vision in her left eye and some in her right eye. My mom got on the phone and was told to immediately take her to the ER in Myrtle Beach, so she did. They sat there for a couple hours and were then told to go home and get her seen by an eye doctor. My family packed up and were heading home at 4am for an eye doctor to see her on saturday at 8am. They ran a series of tests and scheduled a MRI for tuesday morning. She went in for the MRI and we got the results back at 5pm that same night. She had a Tumor on her Pituitary Gland which is located on the top/front of her brain and controls her hormones. We were told that out of all the options of what this could have been this was the best outcome. So from there Sydney had multiple doctors appointments at Duke Raleigh Hosital where she was told she was going to have to have brain surgery to remove the tumor. They set a date for the surgery which was Monday August 25th, 2014. They went in through her nose and broke her septum which allowed them to go in with a clear passage way to removed the tumor without disturbing anything! Her surgery was successful!! She stayed a Duke in ICU Monday-Wednesday and then was in a regular room until Friday when she was discharged. She had no complications other then having severe headaches for the past week which finally eased up yesterday! :) She is finally getting back to being herself again! We are asking anyone who could help out with her medical bills to help cover what her insurance doesn't. She has OBAMA CARE and Duke was out of network so my family has to come up with the first $25,000.00 out of pocket and then 40% of the remainder of her surgery will also be out of pocket. Anything will help! We are so thankful to have our Sydney back healthy! Thank you to everyone reads this and donates! I promise it is greatly appreciated!
