Hey everyone! My son Brian Welker is an amazing artist, and is in his last year of highschool. Brian was born with a pencil in one hand, and paper in another. Since he was a toddler, Brian has been drawing endlessly, and his talent has amazed many. Throughout the years, Brian has drawn a wide variety of subject matter, as can be seen in his portfolio here. Deviantart has been the site of his online portfolio now for more than 5 years, and he is constantly adding new pieces monthly.
Brian's medium is simply a #2 pencil and 8.5x11 typing paper (c. 90%) or acid free artist's paper (c. 10%), depending on what's available at the time. If you visit his portfolio on deviantart, you can see that most of his media is done in grayscale. Brian has been wanting to learn to use color, and while I've purchased colored pencils for him, he prefers to stay with grayscale. He has often talked about how he wished he could draw directly into Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator, and use the variety of tools that many professional artists use in the industry today to bring their art to life. Brian already has an intermediate level of experience using photoshop, and recently would scan his artwork into a PC to make edits to it using Adobe Photoshop CS6 from my laptop.
Brian and I both feel that if he were able to expand his talent into the digital world directly with an interface that allowed him to still feel like he was drawing on paper but actually drawing digitally and editing it likewise, that he would advance his already amazing gift to the next level. My hope is that by obtaining a Cintiq Companion, this will enable him to start creating digital art that he can also manipulate using the variety of tools available in digital form. He could then create an addition to his portfolio that he can use to apply to art schools in the coming year. Brian's desire is to do concept art for the gaming industry, and he's already working on 2 graphic novels. Please help us reach his goal of obtaining a Cintiq Companion, enabling him for a future as a professional artist in the digital art industry. Thank you!
