WHO AM I?
My name is Fatima and I am passionate about helping moms and dads have healthy pregnancies, births, babies and amazing parenting experiences.
I have been a doula (Greek word meaning "woman who serves") for over 15 years. I have supported women and families in the U.S. and abroad from all backgrounds of life, offering childbirth education, comfort measures during birth, breastfeeding support, peer counseling, placenta encapsulation, cooking, cleaning, sitzs baths, teas, nipple oils for cracked breasts...the list goes on and on...now it is time to share my knowledge to better service my community.
Currently I am training 4 lovely ladies to become "Village Mother's" also known as "DOULAS" on HealthConnect One's Community Based Doula curriculum. This is an 80 hour training which takes place over the course of 16 weeks. Throughout the training the doulas will be learning how to provide support, comfort measures, childbirth education, breastfeeding support, new born and postpartum care.
We want to offer this service to teens and women of South Mountain Village.
WHY SOUTH MOUNTAIN VILLAGE?
WHY DO WE WANT TO RAISE SO MUCH MONEY?
As Village Mother's we want to raise $111,000 and utilize HealthConnect One's Community Based Doula curriculum. (They suggest a program budget of $105,750 we increased it to include facility expenses.)

WHAT DO WE WANT TO DO?
-We want to train our 4 "Village Mothers" for 16 weeks.
-Offer low income and disadvantaged teens and women the opportunity to have a doula.
-Pay doulas to provide support as paraprofessionals.
-Provide quality service to help improve birth outcomes and increase breastfeeding rates.
(Don't worry the baby can breathe I was there supporting this mom to breastfeed for the 1st time even though this was her 2nd baby.)
WHY DO WE WANT TO DO IT?
We want the women and families of South Mountain Village to receive all the benefits that a doula can provide:
- Improve prenatal care
- Lower c-section rates
- Fewer medical interventions
- Increase breastfeeding rates
- Delay subsequent pregnacy for moms age 13-16
- Help moms have more positive birth experiences
- Increased mother-child interaction
- Improve parenting skills
- And more...
We are passionate women who care about the well being of our community and our babies. The better we mother the mothers, the better the mothers will be able to mother their child(ren).
